You can not change the size of any field in QB So if the invoice field is not long enough for you, you will have to customize the template, In customize data layout, on the header tab (left side), use one of the Other fields (30 characters), retitle it to read external invoice number and in layout designer position it where you need it, just below the default I would think and make your entry in that field But QB needs the QB invoice number to reference invoices, so either allow the default number to increment or change it to match the ending digits of the external invoice number. Otherwise, QuickBooks counts them from the day they’re recorded. • Reports – Show Accounts By: You select a radio button in the Reports – Show Accounts By group to indicate how you want QuickBooks to arrange account information on your reports: by name, description, or both name and description. • Statement of Cash Flows: You click the Classify Cash button to tell QuickBooks how it should handle its accounts when it produces a picture-perfect statement of cash flows using generally accepted accounting principles. A suggestion? Leave this for your CPA. • Format: Clear the Default Formatting for Reports check box and then click the Format button if you want to improve the look of your reports. If QuickBooks isn’t already listed in the Start menu, choose Start→All Programs→QuickBooks→QuickBooks Pro 2016 (or QuickBooks Premier 2016). To set the invoice number, first change the company setting. Click the gear icon in QuickBooks and then click on “Sales Form Entry.”. You can use the Fonts & Numbers tab in the Report Format Preferences dialog box to choose preferences for displaying numbers, decimal fractions, and negative numbers. You also can fool around with different fonts and point sizes for labels, column headings, titles, and other things in your reports.
